Established in 1999 as an Institute of National Importance to be a centre of excellence in Information Technology, Electronics & Communications and allied areas, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (IIIT Allahabad) was conferred the Deemed University status by Govt. of India in the year 2000. IIIT Allahabad now stands as an institute of international repute known for being a pioneer in the field of Information Technology. With its highly experienced faculty and one of the brightest groups of students of this nation, coupled with dynamic academic courses, inter-departmental electives, semester projects and world class research labs, the institute has succeeded in creating an environment where creativity and new ideas flourish. The mission of IIIT, Allahabad is to be a unique and world class nucleating "Apex Center of Excellence" in the area of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications and Allied Sciences, so as to enhance India's Technological strength in IT, Silicon and Communications industries, and produce professionals who with their tremendous competencies and sound knowledge of the leading technologies are able to contribute to the development of our nation, to establish India as the leader in Technology on the global map.
The campus plan, based on a bird taking flight symbolises a
launchpad for students to shoot for the stars. The beautiful 100
acre campus, situated at Deoghat, Jhalwa, designed meticulously on
the Penrose Geometry pattern, is being further topped by fine
landscaping to give an all round soothing effect to create a
stimulating environment to indulge in the true pursuit of excellence
in the field of Information Technology and Allied Sciences. It
includes three Computer Centres with six labs each, 16 lecture
halls, electronic library, stadium and various recreational
facilities.
The campus is envisaged to be a fully residential one, with all its
faculty, staff and students housed in different pockets. Every nook
and cranny is connected to the IIITA network by high speed optic
fibres and wireless LAN opening the highway to internet.The
institute has a sprawling on 100 acres lush green lawns and expanse
of rich flora and devise floriculture, the Campus includes Visitors
Guest House, Faculty Guest House, VIP Guest House, 5 Boy's Hostels
with capacity of 275 inmates each, 3 Girl's Hostels, 60 Residential
Quarters of Type I, II, III & IV, Married Scholar Apartments,
Students Activity Centre, Health Centre, Squash Courts, Swimming
pool, Tennis Courts, Badminton Courts, Pavilion & Playgrounds.
